Nature of Light VI - Keynote Talk by Marlan Scully

The sixth installment of the Nature of Light conference series has concluded. You can find the proceedings here.

Once again we had the good fortune to have a well-known scientist present his thoughts and ideas on the nature of light. Marlan Scully presented the work of many historical figures that shaped our current understanding of light, and added his own perspective and insightful thoughts. Marlan Scully to give Keynote Talk at The Nature of Light

Texas A&M and Princeton Professor Marlan Scully, well-known theoretical Quantum Optician and author of various physics textbooks, will deliver this year's keynote talk at our conference.

Nature of Light VI

The 6th biennial conference on "The Nature of Light: What are photons?" will be held at San Diego in August 2015.
You are welcome to participate!

When: August 9-13, 2015
Where: San Diego Convention Center, San Diego, USA
(Part of SPIE Optics + Photonics)
If you have any questions, or would like to suggest invited and/or keynote speakers, please contact Prof. Chandra Roychoudhuri at

For many centuries, optical science and engineering (OSE) has been playing critical enabling roles in facilitating the advancement of all other science, engineering and related industries. So, it is of great significance that UNESCO has declared 2015 as the Year of Light. We are fortunate that our 6th biennial conference coincides with the year-long celebration of the Year of Light. So, let us pull our creative minds together to make this 6th biennial conference especially informative for both specialists and for general audience.

Nature of Light V - Keynote Talk by Carver Mead

Our fifth Nature of Light conference has concluded, and once again many interesting and inspiring papers were presented. You can find the proceedings here. Talks given by Chandra were recorded, and we will make them available on this site shortly.

We were fortunate enough to have "Chip Daddy" Carver Mead give our Keynote Lecture this year. His talk includes a short, critical history of the Photon, and provides much food for thought. Watch a recording of the lecture right here:

Carver Mead to give Keynote Talk at The Nature of Light

Caltech professor, microelectronics pioneer and "Collective Electrodynamics" author Carver Mead will deliver this year's keynote talk at our conference. The title of the talk will, appropriately, be "The nature of light: What are photons?". Prof. Mead will present his recent views an the nature of light, and how they can be extended seamlessly to a unified view of the observable universe.

The 5th biennial conference on "The Nature of Light: What are photons?" will be held at San Diego in August 2013.
You are welcome to participate!

Call for papers (CLOSED): the 5th biennial conference in 2013
Dates: August 25-29, 2013
Place: San Diego, USA
A part of SPIE Annual Conference

For our 5th biennial conference in 2013, we want our current and future participants to appreciate that our conference platform will remain as broad as the frequency range of EM waves, from Radio waves to gamma-rays! The key platform is to broaden our understanding of light and matter through all possible light-matter interaction processes. We strongly encourage authors to submit papers that attempt to imagine, visualize and explain the real physical processes behind the generation, propagation and detection of EM waves; thereby energize the debate on whether EM waves consist of indivisible quanta, divisible wave packets, or something new. All submitted theoretical and experimental papers should deal with actual or feasible experiments to prove their points in deference to pure mathematically formalistic papers primarily on quantum philosophy, pure quantum logics.
